Yeoville Stories
What makes Yeoville special as a neighbourhood in the minds of its residents and its users? What spaces are used, by whom, and why? What are the different experiences of city life that are brought together in Yeoville? How is Yeoville perceived by different groups (the youth and the elder, males and females, various nationalities, those who were born there and those who were not)? What are the spaces where different groups meet, what are the spaces where they express their own identities?
Postcards from Yeoville
During Africa Week, Yeoville Studio mounted a small exhibition in the library courtyard. About 30 photographs were put on display – some taken by Wits Architecture and Planning students, and some by Yeoville residents who participated in the Yeoville Stories workshops. Each person who came to look was given a set of stickers, and asked to use these to vote for their favourite photographs. The six most popular were then printed as postcards, and given out during the Africa Day celebrations on May 29th. These six were the winning pictures, which Yeoville residents selected as the best reflections of the spirit and atmosphere of the suburb.
