Do you have some good business ideas? Do you need need advice in how to get started? The Business Place is an organisation that works to develop small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in South Africa. It works as a group of walk-in centres for entrepreneurs. People young and old are encouraged to come to the organisation to gain advice in starting businesses.  The institution aims to be extremely welcoming and user-friendly and to offer as much accessibility to its patrons as possible.

Representatives from already established businesses, community based organisations and NGOs work to assist those whose passion to improve their lives and their society’s needs direction.

"The location could not be better. We aim for client convenience. The Business Place makes that possible through the range of tenants located here" a Joburg Branch tenant said.

Those who already have businesses are given tips in how to expand and improve them.

There are nine branches that work independently of one another. One can consult the contact us
and branches pages of the www.thebusinessplace.co.za for more information.

Each branch offers different organised training programmes in addition to general and specialised advice.

The Business Place was created with the mission of

  • making life easier for entrepreneurs and encouraging entrepreneurship.
  • stimulating local business, keeping people in their communities and
  • assisting local communities to reduce dependency on the government.

The organisation believes in maximising the returns from the scarce resources of its members. The members’ funds are used to help one another.

Also the group is against one school of business thought. Instead, it considers the specific characteristics of each entrepreneur and creates solutions to their problems around these.

After research findings showed that there was little coordinated support for emerging South African entrepreneurs in the micro and informal business sectors, Investec Bank decided to establish The Business Place. While Investec’s core strategy is to build big business, it recognizes that stimulating a vibrant entrepreneurial society at all levels is crucial for economic growth in the country and the region.

Investec Private Bank created The Business Place to stimulate growth in all sectors of the South African economy. This organisation sees how much potential for economic growth lies in SMME development.
