Public Spaces

Public open space is at an essential part of vibrant and healthy community. The focus on public space aims to identify opportunities for expanding the public domain within Yeoville for all its residents. Yeoville’s specificity is the vibrancy of its streets and its dense social network; however public space is also marked by some feeling of insecurity and lack of maintenance or management. Wits students and staff are looking at public spaces challenges while enhancing the specific qualities that make Yeoville unique. They are for instance looking at street trading as contributing to the special atmosphere, and how to make it more sustainable; parks and places for Yeoville youth; community restaurants; etc.
