YEOVILLE
I've been in Joburg for most of my life, and only recently came to know a little about Yeoville. This project "Hotel Yeoville" is very insightful and now that I think I know enough it, I can tell my story.
Im originally from KZN,and I came to Joburg when I was 2 years old. The only places I knew well were Soweto and Lenasia, because that's were I lived and attended school. I knew very little about Yeoville and its history and present. I heard that it was a very dangerous place and that foreign people dominate so that South Africans feel out of place. It had a bad reputation for drug use and prostitution, but as soon as I started to explore the area, it was very different to the stories that people who don't know it tell. To my suprise, people's perception about a particular place is based on the knowledge that they pick up through others impressions, and not until you walk through and get to know a place, an the area by yourself will you get to know what is really happening in that area. It's the same with Soweto. People's perceptions are all wrong and negative until they get there themselves. You have to explore a place to know what it is that you are talking about. Yeoville is a great place to live and people are warm and friendly and from all over the African continent. Come and see for yourself!
